2nd graders coded a Scorekeeper game in ScratchJr and then used it to keep track of points while playing an addition card game. So proud of the hard work and creativity they put into their projects!

Maker Club created Cube Creatures with our new 3D Start pens. I love their creativity!
1st Graders began planning for their next Scratch Jr. project. They chose a scene from the story Jungle Bullies that they will animate with code! Maker Club kids started their designing their Cube Creatures with our new 3D Pens from Donors Choose!
2nd graders continued to work in Scratch Jr. and built a Racing Game.
4th graders learned about binary code and created their initials on a keychain. 5th graders started coding their Dodgeball Tilt Game in Tynker. 4th and 5th grade after school Maker Club students build with K'Nex, create clay models, make paper circuits, design cars, and more!
1st and 2nd graders learn to use the different coding blocks in Scratch Jr.
2nd graders practice their programming skills and learn about loops in Code.org.
4th graders work on their Digital Citizenship awareness posters. 5th graders work on their Digital Superheros. 1st and 2nd graders played a game called "Rosie's Runtime" while learning the basics of computer programming. They had to carefully put together a program that would get Rosie the Robotic Dog from start to finish while picking up bones and avoiding mud puddles along the way. They quickly learned the importance of communication, sequence, and direction!
This week in the media center ...
1st graders explored Engineering Stations that included building towers with Strawbees, ramps with Keva plants, and creating Lego marble mazes. See more pictures HERE. 2nd graders discussed reverse engineering and deconstructed old electronics to discover what made them work. See more pictures HERE. 3rd graders played a Digital Superhero board game to learn more about how to be a good Digital Citizen and be safe online. 4th graders also learned how to be Digital Superheroes as they explored a toolbox full of tips. 5th graders began working their way through their Digital Citizenship lessons by playing games on Google's new Interland games designed to teach kids how to be safe and smart online. This week in the media center ...
1st graders learned about the many uses for the Internet and went on a virtual field trip to the San Diego Zoo to learn about animals. 2nd graders practiced writing kind, positive, and respectful comments online and discussed the importance of never using the Internet to be hurtful. All 4th and 5th grade classes successfully solved all the clues and "broke out" of the box while learning about Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship. Way to go Leos!
This week we started our digital citizenship unit. 4th and 5th graders attempted to save Captain Digital Citizen's Passwords by "Breaking Out" of the box (almost there!). 2nd graders filled their digital footprints with information that is safe to share online. 1st graders learned how to identify websites that are "just right for kids" and to be cautious of advertisements. Check out the 2nd graders finished footprints in our Student Project Gallery.
1st and 2nd graders designed and built "Candy Grabbers" to pick up Starburst. So proud of their team work, critical design thinking, and perseverance!
3rd and 5th graders build catapults to launch "care packages" (or Starbursts) across the river to the people of Leeville!
Check out their catapult designs: https://goo.gl/photos/LgwSakvWDG9dewSt7 Lots of great projects in today's Maker Club session! These kids are so creative! Check out this fun video to see some of their work: https://goo.gl/1pVVdv
4th Graders have been working hard on their Makey Makey and SCRATCH board games. They are designing, coding, and adding circuits to make their game board interact with their SCRATCH programming. So proud of them! More pictures to come ...
1st Graders have been working hard to design a city map for their Ozobot to explore. They added color codes for their Ozobot to follow, "debugging" their code when necessary. Lots of fantastic collaboration! Way to go 1st Graders!
Our 4th and 5th grade Maker Club started today! Students enjoyed exploring the different materials we have available in our Makerspace. Check out more pictures here: Maker Club Session #1 Photo Gallery
2nd graders worked in pairs to create a pixel art design and then wrote a program for a "robotic arm" (or another student) to follow. After all students are ready, they will trade programs and try to run them to recreate the picture. We'll see if any "debugging" needs to be done.
3rd graders designed an accessory for their Ozobot that would allow it to push or pull a marble or pom pom. The accessory could not be taped to the Ozobot itself and had to be built from the available materials (cardboard, straws, pipe cleaners).
5th graders began the building phase of their musical instrument project this week. It was such fun to see their plans come together in 3D. I was most impressed by the perseverance and team work that prevailed as they struggled through designs that didn't work the first time. Great work Leos!
